Glass entrance doors that close, latch and lock properly
A shop door that slams, swings open in a lake wind, or won't lock at closing. Most entrance trouble is one part: the closer, a pivot, the lock or the glass, and that part can be replaced. We connect Oshawa and Durham businesses and property managers with independent local pros who repair glass entrance doors, one of our commercial glass services.
- Closers, pivots and locks replaced
- Door glass reglazed in the frame
- Visits planned around opening hours

What's wrong
Common failures: closers, pivots, hinges, thresholds
The closer is the arm at the top of the door, or a unit in the floor, that brings it shut at a set speed.
Slams or swings shut hard
The speed settings have drifted, or the closer is losing fluid. One with oil at its seams gets replaced; adjusting a sound one is a small job.
Won't latch or drifts open
The latching speed is off, the door has dropped, or the strike has moved. Wind against a tired closer makes it worse.
Drags or catches
Worn pivots or hinges let the door sag onto the threshold. A bent threshold does the same and is replaced on its own.
Locking up
Locks, panic hardware and keying
Storefront doors usually lock with a deadbolt or hookbolt turned by a key cylinder. Pry damage bends the bolt or strike; a lost key calls for a new cylinder or rekeying. Neither needs a new door.
Exit hardware, the push bar on the inside, has to release freely every time; if it sticks, get it looked at soon. Some glass pros handle locks and exit devices, others bring in a locksmith.
Closer swap
A worn closer replaced, the door kept
A repair, not a new entrance.
Describe your doorDoor glass
Cracked or shattered door glass
Glass in doors has to be safety glass under Ontario's building code: tempered or laminated. It's ordered to size and the opening is boarded or fitted with a temporary panel in the meantime.
In an aluminum door, the glass sits behind removable stops and is replaced on site. In a frameless door the glass is the door, so the whole panel is made new.
The quote
What shapes a commercial door repair quote
The pro will ask about:
- The closer: surface, concealed overhead or floor
- Pivots or hinges, and whether the frame is square
- Locks, cylinders and exit hardware
- Door glass: tempered or laminated, and its size
- A visit before opening or after close
A photo of the closer, the hinge side and the lock helps a pro bring the right parts.
Openers
Automatic and accessible openers (what a glass pro can and can't service)
When a push-button door stops opening, the cause might be the operator, the sensor, the power or a door binding on its hinges. A glass and door pro can deal with the binding, closer and glass.
The operator itself often needs a specialist; the pro will advise. If people with mobility needs rely on that entrance, say so in your request.
After a break-in
Break-in damage and the City's vandalism fund
A forced entrance usually means more than glass: a bent bolt, a damaged cylinder, a closer arm out of line. Have it all looked at in one visit, with each part on the invoice.
Oshawa's Graffiti and Vandalism Remediation Fund names locks alongside windows and doors in its rebate for commercial and industrial properties. It's a one-time fund, subject to availability. See vandalism glass repair for how a claim fits with the repair.
Timing
Scheduling around business hours
Put your opening hours in the request, and say if this is your only door. Many repairs can be planned before opening or after close; ask the pro when they call.
If parts are on order, the door can often be left locked or boarded. Damaged panes beside it? See storefront glass.
